Simple Beanie Hat
Bottom-up, adult, child, in the round
(Writing this out for myself because with my memory I know someday this simple pattern will be lost when I want to make another one of these simple beanie hats)
Using a US 8 (5.0 mm)
40 cm (16 inches) circular needle and US 8 (5.0 mm) double pointed needles
40 cm (16 inches) circular needle and US 8 (5.0 mm) double pointed needles
or
longer circular needles if using the magic loop method
Two colors of yarn (~45 meters of band color and ~140 meters of body color)
Bent tipped tapestry needle for weaving in the ends.
Guage: 10 cm = 15 stitches, 18 rows
Abbreviations:
k - knit
p - purl
ssk - slip slip knit
p2tog - together
Cast on 84 stitches and join in the round
Band rounds (worked in band color): * k2, p2 * repeat working in complete rounds until reaching the desired band thickness.
Final band round (worked in band color): k2 p2tog, * k2, p2 * repeat until 4 stitches left, k2 p2tog
The body of beanie (worked in body color): * k * in continuous complete rounds until the desired size is reached.
[Transfer to double pointed needles unless using magic loop method]
Decrease Rows (worked in body color):
Round 1: * k4, ssk *
Round 2: * k3, ssk * until 3 stitches left, k1, ssk
Round 3: * ssk, k2 * until 3 stitches left, ssk, k1
Round 4: 8 ssk, k1 * until 2 stiches left ssk
Round 5: * ssk * until one stich left k1
Round 6: * ssk * for complete round
Cut yarn, pull through the remaining loops and weaving in your ends.
